Mrs Peters:llä on aikamoinen lista koti- ja muita töitä aviomiehelleen. Mitä Robert niistä teki ja ei tehnyt? Saat itse päättää. (POIKKEUS: kohta 3 - Robert teki tosiaankin kuten hänen vaimonsa halusi!) Kirjoita siis joko KIELTEINEN tai MYÖNTEINEN imperfektimuoto aukkokohtiin. Katso mallia kohdasta yksi. Vihreiden sanojen suomennokset saat kun laitat osoittimen niiden päälle. Muista lukea SÄÄNTÖ ensin!


Englannissa on kahdenlaisia verbejä: säännöllisiä ja epäsäännöllisiä:
1) säännölliset verbit: nämä saavat IMPERFEKTISSÄ [teki] ja PERFEKTISSÄ [on tehnyt] päätteen -ED. Esim. talk - talked [= puhui] - have/has talked [= on puhunut]; wash - washed - washed ; play - played - played ; want - wanted - wanted . Useimmat verbit ovat säännöllisiä.
2. Epäsäännölliset verbit: Niiden muodot ovat IMPERFEKTISSÄ ja PERFEKTISSÄ, kuten sana jo kertoo, vailla sääntöjä. Ne täytyy OPETELLA ULKOA. Esim. eat - ate - eaten; catch - caught - caught; think - thought - thought; drink - drank - drunk; put - put - put; sing - sang - sung, jne. Usein imperfektimuoto on sama kuin perfektillä - muttei läheskään aina. Epäsäännöllisiä verbejä on toista sataa.
Myönteiset imperfektilauseet (= joku TEKI jotakin):
esim. I walked to school yesterday; I went to school the day before yesterday. Kuten yllä mainittiin, verbejä on kahdenlaisia, säännöllisiä (walk-walked) ja epäsäännöllisiä (go - went). Muoto on sama kaikissa persoonissa, myös jos tekijöitä on vain yksi: My friend walked to school yesterday; He went to school on foot yesterday.
Kielteiset imperfektilauseet [joku EI TEHNYT jotakin]:
1) Ne muodostetaan seuraavasti: DIDN'T + VERBIN PERUSMUOTO. Esim. I didn't WALK to school yesterday; I didn't GO to school on foot. Huomaa, että WALK ja GO ovat perusmuodossa - ei imperfektimuodossa! Ne eivät ole imperfektimuodossa, koska imperfekti on siirretty DO-APUVERBIIN: DIDN'T [= DID NOT].
2) POIKKEUS: BE-VERBI IMPERFEKTISSÄ - was  ja were  . Kuten preesensissä (esim. I am not old; you are not / aren't stupid), ei myöskään imperfektissä saa käyttää DO-APUVERBIÄ. Didn't muodon sijasta käytetään pelkkää NOT-sanaa, joka sitten liitetään was- ja were-muotojen kanssa yhteen. Esim. My mum was not / wasn't  out of work last year; My parents were not / weren't  at work yesterday.
